The Fairest Breeze

I was writing a song tonight called "Lost in Austin" but I couldn't finish it because this other thing kept popping up. I drank 10 beers straight writing this from start to finish and I blame Guy Clark and Townes Van Zandt for inspiring me to write simply, which is hard if you're relatively smart and want to make a point. Forgive me, judgers. I think I'll call it, "The Fairest Breeze". I'll record soon, I suppose...

It's been… another year…
days fly by as I'm steady shedding fears.
And more and more I'm feeling like a man…
That holds the worldly keys within his hands.
Digesting all the wisdom he's been fed…
And working out the answers in his head.
Til free and clear the thoughts drift through his mind…
Like the fairest breeze that's been there all the time.
And don't you know it's been here all the time.

Like friends in need or partners in a crime.
No questions to the reason or the rhyme.
The seasons change and friend you will change too.
Until there's nothing more ‘tween me and you.
But one fine day our paths shall cross again
And rebuild the connections forged within.
Then we'll embrace, speak fondly of the past.
And realize that we're all one soul at last.
Like the fairest breeze that's been here all the time.

Then free and clear the thoughts drift through our minds.
The life and world we share will be just fine.
Notice everything around us seems so grand
thriving then eroding into sand.
Snake eat tail the infinite design
but in time only a few see eye to eye.
See questions never make the answers clear
So give thanks shake hands before we disappear.

And it's been… another year…
days fly by as I'm steady shedding fears.
And more and more I'm feeling like a man…
That holds the world, gently in my hands.
Digesting all the wisdom I've been fed…
And working out the answers in my head.
Til free and clear the thoughts drift through my mind…
Like the fairest breeze that's been there all the time.
And Lord I know it's been here all the time.
And Lord I know it's been here all the time...
